Together, the sisters set out for the trapper rendezvous to find the woman, but their mission turns more daunting when they come upon the mass of men and lodges spread out in the Green River Valley.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Riley Turner came west to find peace and quiet and live off the land, but when four unprotected women arrive at the rendezvous, he feels compelled to help them and is more fascinated by Juniper than any other woman he's known.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">As their search brings only empty leads and dead ends, the sisters must decide whether to return east or stay in the mountains to continue looking--and that's if the mystery woman is even still alive. rendezvouses, I was really excited to read this book. It drew me in right away.
The combination of the four sisters was really fun, and I loved Riley. He’s
amazing. I had a little trouble understanding why any father of the time would
ever send his daughters out west to try to find a woman he knew twenty years
ago. Or why he would keep any information from them. It didn’t make any sense
to me. And I don’t think even having Riley around would have kept the girls
safe all that time, especially the times they would go off on their own. Not in
a huge camp of drunken mountain men. It just doesn’t seem realistic.</p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">But, beyond those quibbles and the book feeling a bit slow
in the middle, I did enjoy the story, and I look forward to continuing with the
series.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.</p></div><p><br /></p>Jaye L. I have decided to change the name of my publishing company to Ink Dragon Press. This is something I've been planning for quite some time now. A couple of years, at least, but I didn't want to do it until after all of the Ilyon books were released so that there would be no variation in the covers. Now that Daican's Heir is available, I can finally start using the new name.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Why did I change it? I don't really have a specific answer other than I just wasn't "feeling" Living Sword Publishing anymore. I still think it's a cool publishing name, but, as with many things you do when you are young, you realize it's just not you anymore once you're fully into adulthood.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So, going forward, all of my writing projects will be published under Ink Dragon Press. Eventually, I probably will change the Ilyon Chronicles paperback covers over to reflect this change (it will only be a minor change of adding the logo to the spine in place of the LSP). But for now, they will remain the same. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Along with this change, I have also re-opened my publishing company Etsy shop. If you were part of my Nerd Cat Creations newsletter last week, you will have seen that I, unfortunately, have to shut down that shop due to Shopify increasing the price of their subscriptions. That was where I was selling autographed books and Ilyon merchandise, but it will now be available on Etsy instead. You can check it out <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/InkDragonPress" target="_blank">here</a>. (I'm still working on getting everything switched over to the shop.)</p><p style="text-align: justify;">I'm really excited about the new name and the new logo and can't wait for what projects will one day be published under it.</p>Jaye L. It's been a crazy (and, oftentimes, frustrating) journey to reach the conclusion of this series, but I am so excited to be here. While writing parts of this book, particularly the ending, was bittersweet, I am so happy with how it turned out and am so excited to finally share it with everyone.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I wrote the bulk of this book while struggling for two years with nearly crippling anxiety. It was one of the worst times in my life. Thankfully, as of last fall, it's no longer a constant, daily battle (though still likes to pop up at the worst times). It's a miracle from God that I managed to do any writing at all during that time, let alone finish this book. I was pretty much terrified from the moment I started the book nearly seven years ago to the day I finished that it wasn't going to be any good and wouldn't live up to the rest of the series. Again, God worked a miracle, because once I got into editing, I fell in love with it. Though it's hard for me to pick a favorite book of the series, this one is a top contender. Everything managed to come together even better than I dreamed, and I hope you will find the conclusion of this series as satisfying as I do. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">To celebrate the release of the book, I will be posting over at the <a href="https://www.blog.ilyonchronicles.com/" target="_blank">Ilyon Chronicles blog</a> every day for the next week (the final post will be on Saturday, February 25). The next few days will feature the highly popular character Q&As, so make sure you check them out.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-JWpVMTu5Kqb6SCSRDcNw3s4heOx4SqkFxcgUJTVtqAoaaX0jl6UlOpPvDp4V49qAGEMaOKlzk-FTR3BBEXKkgIQ45Aa7eZIAhBlQIhPn4haxkBn5sI38V7umQRBLATVnjQ7MKUfIeogD79wNegI1cXNMRF7n_mHgxn2Bb1uCSyCh-5hf6uaQ6MsctQ/s800/BCT.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="501" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-JWpVMTu5Kqb6SCSRDcNw3s4heOx4SqkFxcgUJTVtqAoaaX0jl6UlOpPvDp4V49qAGEMaOKlzk-FTR3BBEXKkgIQ45Aa7eZIAhBlQIhPn4haxkBn5sI38V7umQRBLATVnjQ7MKUfIeogD79wNegI1cXNMRF7n_mHgxn2Bb1uCSyCh-5hf6uaQ6MsctQ/w501-h501/BCT.jpg" width="501" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3XzRQPM" target="_blank">Kindle Copy</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/410RNPZ" target="_blank">Paperback Copy</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://nerdcatcreations.com/products/pre-order-daicans-heir-book-6-autographed" target="_blank">Autographed Copy</a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I am also having a themed giveaway for the release. I can't believe it is finally time to share the cover of <i>Daican's Heir</i>! The last time I had an <i>Ilyon Chronicles</i> cover reveal was all the way back in July of 2018!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN_9wjVtFnUULP5XYapEUpDeyikC8TlgJMHXY83dMJgfPS2--W67aeE2Ou_z-YkMLLHVyDpMISq5ItvQijYQYm7apm3aDxa2wcHY4zPAFVBzoIx9yvI0xqdkcG9oc4KIGVeBzGjAi8d-ZNXMV5-LtS7r6ycYx1e-69j8bd6Q3VmUsRN3GOOdk50ofXNA/s400/giphy%20(1).gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="202" data-original-width="400" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN_9wjVtFnUULP5XYapEUpDeyikC8TlgJMHXY83dMJgfPS2--W67aeE2Ou_z-YkMLLHVyDpMISq5ItvQijYQYm7apm3aDxa2wcHY4zPAFVBzoIx9yvI0xqdkcG9oc4KIGVeBzGjAi8d-ZNXMV5-LtS7r6ycYx1e-69j8bd6Q3VmUsRN3GOOdk50ofXNA/w433-h219/giphy%20(1).gif" width="433" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This cover has been sitting on my computer for YEARS waiting for this day. This is the first book of the series to feature a villain on the front. Considering the mood of the story and the stakes, it seemed appropriate. After all, it has all boiled down to this moment--taking out Davira. The blood-red background also fits her vibe very well. Can I just say how scary she is? Like, I know I'm the one who wrote her, but she still scares me. And she is not going to go down without trying to destroy everything around her first. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I just can't wait to share this book. I got my first bit of beta reader feedback last weekend and it absolutely made my day. It confirmed that the satisfaction I felt about the book wasn't just my relief at finishing. You can read her endorsement for it below. I still don't have a set release date (maybe sometime in March...), but the Kindle book is up for pre-order! Unfortunately, Amazon still doesn't allow indie authors to set paperbacks for pre-order, so if you're wanting one of those, you'll have to wait to order until release day.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">So, without further ado, please enjoy the cover, as well as a little sneak peek at the first chapter!</div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjypHfGrxraAU-TXWg9Tht3GzFqIcMht00IOguAFy3kYEngsmhPEWe05eYc1ZHJZjj5VHb9qEnx8gdewF26EKs8kjTcOO_AAatf7CnDXmWeXJOlDd2Qr54YrKlfR3NXky1g7VXj2bme7I7skYKBEzAvC6x1ELqHVW6ftLJbUqy1C6i3Tn-APMFz4buU3w/s1349/DHCover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1349" data-original-width="898" height="664" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjypHfGrxraAU-TXWg9Tht3GzFqIcMht00IOguAFy3kYEngsmhPEWe05eYc1ZHJZjj5VHb9qEnx8gdewF26EKs8kjTcOO_AAatf7CnDXmWeXJOlDd2Qr54YrKlfR3NXky1g7VXj2bme7I7skYKBEzAvC6x1ELqHVW6ftLJbUqy1C6i3Tn-APMFz4buU3w/w442-h664/DHCover.jpg" width="442" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><u style="text-align: left;"><b><br /></b></u></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><u style="text-align: left;"><b>About the Book</b></u></div><p style="text-align: justify;">For three years, the Resistance has suffered under oppression—first from Emperor Daican and now from his daughter. In order to do that, they must help restore the rightful heir to Arcacia’s throne.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">Carrying the weight of everyone’s hopes for the future, Daniel works every day to be the leader and king they have all fought so hard to see him become. With the Resistance and their allies from all across Ilyon united behind him, he prepares for a final confrontation with Davira. But to do so will require facing the full might of Arcacia’s military and Davira’s wrath.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">When Jace and Kyrin become the primary targets of her ravenous hatred, Daniel finds himself in a race against time to stop his sister and avoid the bloodbath she is determined to unleash. So far he’d managed to keep it in place, but Holden wasn’t so lucky. He had already lost what remained of his supper over the edge and now leaned heavily on the railing. Clearly, it would take a lot more than the two days they’d previously spent on board, sneaking the Militia into Samara, for their stomachs to get used to the sea.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">A low groan rumbled from Holden’s hunched form. “Remind me never to set foot on a ship again after this. I’ll happily stick to dragons.”</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Jace had to agree with him there. As much as he hated heights, he’d far rather fly with Gem right now. And it wasn’t just his churning gut that bothered him. Despite only small waves rippling the sea, each dip and tilt of the ship robbed him of balance. The lack of solid footing left him feeling vulnerable. Not that he had any threats to worry about just yet. Those awaited him on shore.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Footsteps passed behind him, and he looked over his shoulder. Though pre-dawn darkness cloaked the ship, and they’d forgone any lanterns that could give away their position, General Torva strode across the deck with a confident stride. He made an impressive figure, as most talcrins did. He reminded Jace of Sam, especially in stature, though his hair was long and gathered into small braids, and his eyes flashed a cunning copper. </span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Their talcrin allies were obviously masters of the sea. Jace hadn’t seen any of them on the verge of losing their stomach contents, though maybe that had not been the case when they’d first left Arda a few weeks ago. Somehow, Rayad and Trask didn’t seem affected either.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Torva stopped at the railing a couple yards away, feet planted and fists on his hips as he stared out over the dark sea. His bronze scale-mail glinted faintly like dragon scales. Jace had never seen armor quite like it. </span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">“We should be nearing the city.”</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Jace scanned the horizon. He could barely make out the shore from this distance—just a black line against the indigo water and sky. No signs of a city, but the talcrins would know better how far they had traveled.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Someone else drew near. Jace shifted, and Rayad put his hand on his shoulder.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">“How are you doing?”</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Jace wasn’t sure if the question was in regards to his queasiness or what lay ahead. He shrugged. He still thought Balen should have chosen someone other than him to lead this mission. Someone with actual leadership skills and experience. But then, he was the one who could see in the dark, and their plan to take back Samara’s capital depended on infiltrating the city undetected. Logically, he offered the greatest chance of success.</span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="color: #0b5394;">Rayad gave his shoulder a squeeze. “We’ll be right behind you.”</span></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">* * *</div><div><br /></div><div><b><u>Other Blogs Participating in the Reveal</u></b></div><div><div><a href="http://hannahgaudetteauthor.wordpress.com">hannahgaudetteauthor.wordpress.com</a></div><div><a href="http://madismusingsblog.wordpress.com">madismusingsblog.wordpress.com</a></div><div><a href="http://smylinggirl.blogspot.com/">smylinggirl.blogspot.com</a></div><div><a href="http://abigailkayharris.wixsite.com/my-site/">abigailkayharris.wixsite.com/my-site/</a></div><div><a href="http://Writtenrest.Wordpress.com">Writtenrest.Wordpress.com</a></div><div><a href="http://shereadswherevershegoes.wordpress.com/blog">shereadswherevershegoes.wordpress.com/blog</a></div><div><a href="http://bookslesstravelledreviews.wordpress.com">bookslesstravelledreviews.wordpress.com</a></div><div><a href="https://ckheartwing.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">ckheartwing.wordpress.com </a></div><div><a href="http://www.themusicofastory.blogspot.com">themusicofastory.blogspot.com</a></div><div><a href="http://achristiangirlwrites.wordpress.com/">achristiangirlwrites.wordpress.com/</a></div><div><a href="http://gracemmorris.wordpress.com/blog/">gracemmorris.wordpress.com/blog/</a></div><div><a href="http://asynesthetewriter.wordpress.com/">asynesthetewriter.wordpress.com/</a></div><div><a href="http://meganmliles.wordpress.com/">meganmliles.wordpress.com/</a></div><div><a href="http://abbyswriting.wixsite.com/abbyswriting">abbyswriting.wixsite.com/abbyswriting</a></div><div><a href="http://thoughtladen.wordpress.com">thoughtladen.wordpress.com</a></div><div><a href="http://azaleadabill.com/wp/?p=1640">azaleadabill.com/wp/?p=1640</a></div></div></div>Jaye L. Today is particularly exciting because, not only do I have sales to offer, but the <i>Daican's Heir </i>Kindle book<i> </i>is up for pre-order! (Unfortunately, Amazon still doesn't allow indie authors to set paperbacks for pre-order.) This is extremely exciting for me. After all the many years I've worked on this book, I can hardly believe it is now there on Amazon. Ahhh! Now, don't panic when you see the release date set for all the way next fall. That is simply to give myself peace of mind and a ton of wiggle room. Right now, I'm very confident it will have an early 2023 release, and I'll update it as soon as I know for certain. The pre-order is also on sale for the next few days and will go up to $3.99 after Monday.</div><div><br /></div><div>I also put every one of my other Ilyon books on sale for 99¢ each! This is the first time they have all been that low, and if you haven't started the series or haven't gotten through all the books, now is the time to grab them in preparation for the release of <i>Daican's Heir</i>!</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3tv9LKG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="602" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0KXX0zE08HvUpJ5vzZ5nu_cl-n0awhHLNSb2H4vZyirIpCGX7ldF677p3QSmJt66p0nD6v0su0Hf1UuqCrSbtLWVfLRpiweQYl5rC2xQmz8xzCjCLqTyDJbQ2khYAhLQFbZbaB-Q3S_8lRUdqHqv_nSmlXVGFZ7thhXCQ-xMgQFokDyhVLhRp7TTETQ/w602-h602/2022KindleSaleSmall.jpg" width="602" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3tv9LKG" target="_blank"><span style="text-align: left;">99</span><span style="text-align: left;">¢ Ilyon Books</span></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://amzn.to/3OtgxdB" target="_blank">Pre-order Daican's Heir</a></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span style="text-align: left;">Of course, I also have sales on my shop website and Etsy (this is how I actually make my living). All clothing and accessories are 15% off through the weekend and Monday. Unfortunately, this doesn't include the paperbacks of my books. Since I already offer free shipping on everything, I can't discount them or I'd lose money. *sigh* But all Ilyon Chronicles shirts and other fun merch are included in the sale! My shop has items for nerds, book lovers, writers, Christians, and kids and babies! Just about everything is on my personal shop website (plus some things not found anywhere else), but if you'd prefer to shop on Etsy, I'll include the links to my shops there as well.</span></div><div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://nerdcatcreations.com/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="531" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4fGWjFqGYJzY7_oqlzTTt0ww9fU8QfBXU-SkZnhVB2z0IUrlyxskPqOVm3aF-FKeXjQmnuxzeiWydud0uH6-I2GjLZcnu1MVomb-LBGgemU2fEamMpjXljVGM2J0SGETleJhJjGvq6QayonMB-FA_hy8hDzQAIfEmnRoK6uYKzeFULH3QwwWQayMAwg/w531-h531/BlackFriday2022.jpg" width="531" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://nerdcatcreations.com/" target="_blank">Main Shop</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/nerdcatcreations" target="_blank">Nerd Cat Etsy</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="http://www.nerdkittencreations.com" target="_blank">Nerd Kitten Etsy</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><a href="http://www.nerdkittencreations.com" target="_blank">Writer Etsy</a></span></div><br /><div>If you've already read all of my books and are looking for something new to read, make sure to check out this huge book sale for clean fiction! I know my blog has been a virtual ghost town for the past year, but there are some exciting things coming up! If you follow me on social media or got my newsletter this morning, you will have seen that I finished the final major edit of <i>Daican's Heir</i> earlier this month! It was a massive undertaking I pretty much dedicated every waking moment to for almost two and a half months. The result is a massive 151,000 word finale to <i>Ilyon Chronicles</i>. I am SO excited to share it with the world! While I don't have a release date just yet, I do have a cover reveal set for December 2nd! If you would like to take part in the reveal and share it on your blog, social media, email, or wherever online venue you like to frequent, you can sign up <a href="https://forms.gle/49hbTLQwqcpb8PHTA" target="_blank">HERE</a>. And to celebrate this milestone, you can read the official blurb, as well as a fun little sneak peek, below.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://forms.gle/49hbTLQwqcpb8PHTA" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="550" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuir6iVfPmZ1L-ltNpFMYd3xccz_V7qecWRbnPUTP1WtCV4V1cnNrWEAOeE4qNZkoH3FmYNMNU2E2Ho0xiBCsr3OrpoV8BY0LcdLNPr0nQXmyo1qYhnmQnPwWVEWv4xOIoQzd2kuQIaVUM4xNA8J2nkMx3g6thnmQ_gyPf0BWv1qz8a1Im4a21oJNURg/w550-h550/RevealAnnouncementInsta.jpg" width="550" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><h3 style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">About the Book</span></h3><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit;">For three years, the Resistance has suffered under
oppression—first from Emperor Daican, and now from his daughter. In her quest
for vengeance, Davira has ripped Arcacia apart, and more blood is spilled every
day. Newly married, all Jace and Kyrin want is to be able to live their lives
in peace. In order to do that, they must help restore the rightful heir to
Arcacia’s throne.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Carrying the weight of everyone’s hopes for the future, Daniel
works every day to be the leader and king they have all fought so hard to see
him become. With the Resistance and their allies from all across Ilyon united
behind him, he prepares for a final confrontation with Davira. But to do so
will require facing the full might of Arcacia’s military and Davira’s wrath.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><o:p> </o:p><span style="font-size: 11pt;">When Jace and Kyrin become the
primary targets of her ravenous hatred, Daniel finds himself in a race against
time to stop his sister and avoid the bloodbath she is determined to unleash. Can
he find a way to protect his loved ones and bring peace to Ilyon or will Davira
succeed in bringing them all to their knees and destroying everything they hold
dear?</span></span></p></div><h3 style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></h3><h3 style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Sneak Peek</h3><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Talas eyed Kaden up and down, probably looking for more injuries. A smirk lifted his lips. “Looks like you lost a bit of hair on that one.”</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Kaden brushed his hand through his hair. Ashy residue dusted his fingers, and he did now catch an acrid whiff of burnt hair along with his singed clothing. At least he didn’t find any bald patches, and his scalp didn’t feel burned. His hair needed a trim anyway. Maybe Marcus could give him one later. The militiamen were good at keeping up their appearances.</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">He ran his knuckles over short whiskers along his jaw. None of them seemed to be missing. “At least the beard is still there.”</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">“You humans and your beards.”</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Kaden snorted. Cretes might not grow facial hair, but they had their own vanities. “Says the one with hair halfway down his back. I bet it takes you longer to wash it than it takes me to keep my beard trimmed.”</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Talas shrugged. “Maybe.”</span></p><p style="background-color: #fcfcfc; direction: ltr; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: justify; text-size-adjust: 100%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></p>Jaye L. Finnigan’s kingdom is crumbling—traitors plot in his midst, a witch has
fled execution, and enemies attack allied lands. When Rifts form
between Golgotha and Mazzabah, the ragtag remnants must close them
before the ancient warlock, Shafiq, takes control of the realms.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">With
darkness engulfing both realms, the group parts ways to seek answers
about the histories and what can be done against Shafiq. But what they
find changes everything. If they can’t fight the darkness, Mazzabah will
be lost, and so will every innocent life left behind. But to survive
the ancient war, they need help. And with more help comes more traitors.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://amzn.to/3m0MRYW" target="_blank">Pre-Order</a></b></h3><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><p style="text-align: justify;"><u><b>Pre-Order Swag</b></u></p><p style="text-align: justify;">Preorders begin TODAY (October 20th) and all preorder receipts must be

Michele is awesome, by the way. I've talked to her a couple of times at Realm Makers and was so disappointed that she wasn't there this year. I haven't had a chance to read her <i>Beast Hunters</i> series yet, but I loved her <i>Zombie Takeover</i> book.</p><h2 style="text-align: center;">Guest Post</h2><div><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: "Cambria","serif";">Thank you so
much for featuring me on your blog today, Jaye! I am so honored to be here.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">So it’s no
secret that the latest book in my Beast Hunters series, </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Silence the Siren</i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">,
is a light reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Little Mermaid</i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">I mentioned this
in an earlier blog post on the tour (so I will only restate it briefly!), but I
was raised on the Disney version of fairy tales. When I first read Andersen’s </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Little
Mermaid</i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">, I threw my Kindle across the room.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">(I mean, she
didn’t get the prince, she </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">died</i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">, and she turned into sea foam? Why,
Hans, why?)</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">But that first
read stuck with me so hard.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">It kept circling
in my head, the little mermaid’s sacrificial love and giving up what she wanted
so the prince, and his new bride, could be happy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: "Cambria","serif";">Such different fare
than my usual happily-ever-after must-reads.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Andersen loved
his morals, loved telling his stories to children with an admonition to “be good”
and to care for their eternal soul—a strong theme in his </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Little Mermaid</i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">
tale—so different from the (dare I say it?) more selfish “I just have to wish
hard enough and all my dreams will come true” stories I was raised on.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Don’t get me
wrong. I adore those stories and absolutely think they have their place.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">But this theme
of sacrifice, of not always getting what you want, no matter how hard you work
for it/wish for it—is this completely valid too?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">I’ve struggled
with it, wrestled with it, and finally had to write a story about it.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Now, I
absolutely admit that I couldn’t do to my characters what Andersen did to his,
but I played with the themes of love and sacrifice and happily ever after—and
my characters explore what happens when things don’t quite go as planned.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Lest you think
the story is a downer, let me assure you it isn’t! </span><i style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">Silence the Siren </i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;">is
a high-seas adventure with pirates, sirens, swashbuckling, and heart, with just
the slightest bit of sweet romance. (I grew up on HEAs, remember?)</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">But I had to
explore self-sacrifice and putting others before one’s self.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">I pray you enjoy
the tale that was born out of that moment of throwing my Kindle!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: "Cambria","serif";">Postscript!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Fun fact: There
are quotes from the original story in both English and French throughout the
book!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><i><span style="font-family: "Cambria","serif";">The Little
Mermaid</span></i><span style="font-family: Cambria, serif;"> was first published
in Danish in 1837, then translated into English in 1845. I wanted to use quotes
from the original English version, but using stories in the public domain can
be tricky. I had to find the original English version, pull five quotes (it was
so hard to pick just five!), then translate them into French (oh my gosh, the <i>tenses</i>).</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Those five
measly little quotes took me two weeks to get just right. I don’t trust Google
translate, so I had my French dictionaries spread around me, had three
different French versions of the tale (and oh my word, each were significantly
different), and conferred with a few of my French-speaking or
French-nationality friends to get the phrasing just right.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">So there you
have it! I sweat blood and tears over those translations, friends. I hope you
love them! (And any mistakes that got past those who knew what they were
talking about were entirely my fault.)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #0b5394; font-family: Cambria, serif;">Thank you, Jaye,
for letting me ramble on about my story today! You are just the sweetest.</span></p>

Moray will lead his empire to glory, even if it means dabbling with
forbidden black magic. But when their parents are murdered, Moray and
his brother, Finnigan, are cast into Golgotha—a realm where hope is
dead. Finnigan fiercely believes his god, Elohai, will rescue them, but
Moray will never trust again.<br /><br />Princess Ama, promised in marriage
to Moray to ensure her clan’s safety from rival tribes, arrives just
before a coup and becomes trapped in Golgotha with the smart-mouthed
mercenary, Gunnar. Surrounded by strange monsters and ravenous demons,
Ama must fight to hold on to her faith—or lose everything.<br /><br />Despite
Ama’s Gift of prophetic dreams, Finnigan’s Gift of energy, Moray’s
magic, and Gunnar’s blades, nothing can rescue them from themselves. If
they fail to escape, darkness will devour the entire kingdom.<br /><br /><i>Shadow and Bone meets Mark of the Raven in this epic for fans of faith-based young adult fantasy.</i><br /><br /></p>Jaye L. and fantasy at age seven when she first read <i>A Wrinkle in Time</i> and <i>The
Chronicles of Narnia</i>. In the time since, she’s spent an inordinate amount
of time exploring new realms and bygone eras through countless books, movies,
and TV shows. She also spends a great deal of time talking to her imaginary
friends and writing down their stories in books such as the <i>Time
Captives</i> fantasy trilogy and <i>Twisted Dreams</i>, a
sci-fi/fantasy Sleeping Beauty novella. On the occasion she remembers she lives
in Georgia in the 21st century, she can be found working at the local library,
playing and teaching violin and piano, singing along to Disney and Broadway
soundtracks, making casseroles while blaring Casting Crowns, sewing her own
clothes, turning pirouettes in the kitchen, and volunteering for political
campaigns. <p></p><p class="MsoNormalCxSpMiddle"><o:p></o:p></p>

So, technically, this post should have been up on Saturday. Oops. In my defense, I was not feeling well on Friday when I should have written it and I was gone on Saturday for my twin nephews' belated birthday party. SO. MUCH. CUTENESS. Ahem, anyway, here's a little wrap-up of the audiobook blog tour. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the tour and helped promote the audiobook on social media last week!<br />

Today I'm helping Angela R. Watts celebrate the release of the first book in her new series. This is especially fun because I got to meet Angela at Realm Makers just last month. Yay! First, here's a bit about the book and then a guest post from Angela herself.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
WHEN THE NATION DIVIDES, THE INFIDELS MUST RISE.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The United States has fallen. Three years after the 2024 presidential election and the declaration of martial law, the nation is at war against itself. Gangs battle, civilians struggle for survival, and officials of the United Nations thrive. West Johnston, heir to the most powerful ganglord in the country, refuses to continue the family legacy. But, in order to defeat his father, he must become him: bloodthirsty and willing to do whatever it takes for control.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
West gains control by helping fellow gangsters, Nate and Simon, when they form an alliance with one of the last remaining townships in America. After years of surviving and winter fast approaching, Springtown is in desperate need of supplies from the two teenagers. When the town leader’s daughter, Rene’, is kidnapped by an unknown rival, Nate and Simon risk their reputations to save her and the town they now love. But without help from West, their rescue mission will fail.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Told in multiple bold, abrasive narratives, THE DIVIDED NATION steps into a future where brotherhood bonds must be stronger than iron to survive a broken world, and faith without courage is dust in the wind.</div>

<h2 dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 6pt; margin-top: 18pt; text-align: center;">

<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<span id="docs-internal-guid-77090582-7fff-d175-413b-fd24a0b85c6c"><div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Writers are usually lonesome, strange creatures. </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We make coffee or tea and let it go cold as our fingers fly across our keyboard. We talk to ourselves while cleaning as plot twists work their way through our minds. We watch people in the grocery store like they’re specimen waiting to be understood. We spend hours on writing and cry over worlds that the naked eye cannot see. What is all this for? Hours of work, lots of tears, countless sleepless nights… for a book that can fit in someone’s hands. It might not even make us money. We might not get any support or any readers. So, allow me to answer the question: “What for?”</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><span style="color: #0b5394;">It took me about 7 months to finish my dystopian novel, The Divided Nation. This was my first time writing a book with heavy Christian content for the general market. Not all of my close friends or readers supported this new novel because of the PG13 content. And it grew difficult, at times, to find encouragement. I’m not really the kind of person who needs a lot of support, honestly, but there were moments when I realized I was losing things… And I didn’t like it.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I had to focus on the “what for”. Am I writing to please every reader or am I writing for God? </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">It’s ironic that I learned so much about loving people while writing the darkest novel I’ve written to date. But honestly, I was enjoying the novel but dreading the *socializing* aspect. Why? I’ve had rough times helping authors, reading things I wouldn’t usually read or didn’t even enjoy, just to help fellow Indies. And I found that not many people are willing to do that kind of thing in return.</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> I wasn’t building up my author platform. I was wearing myself out. What for?</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">There is a balance to this writing journey, y’all. We cannot please everyone. But we can love every single person without pushing ourselves to the limit all the time. We can fully trust God that He knows exactly who needs our novel, and He will bring them to it, if we are faithful. We don’t have to chase readers down. And that is “what for”! I adore writing and allow myself to love others, even if they don’t always return that love. </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">How do we keep the balance of being ourselves and loving other authors?</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Be inspired by your fellow Indie authors. </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Publishing is not a competitive race. You don’t have to be the best Indie author to matter. So be inspired! Does your favorite Indie author have a stack of self-published novels? Finish your own novel. Decide in your heart that you want to have a pile of your own books out in the world one day! If you choose to be encouraged and inspired, instead of jealous or envious, by other authors, you will enjoy yourself more.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Be encouraging to your fellow Indie authors.</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> Comments on social media take seconds, y’all. No matter how *popular* your favorite Indie author might seem, literally everyone appreciates a comment, so don’t be shy. Don’t think they won’t hear you. Be encouraging to the *big* Indies and the *newbies*, no matter where you are on that scale. We’re all human who want to hear “You got this, I believe in you.”</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Be supportive.</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> Supportive friends are rare. There, I’ve said it. But that’s OK. God is the most supportive friend we’ve got, so don’t stress. Just try to be the most supportive friend you can be while staying focused on your own goals. Maybe this is as simple as brainstorming with fellow Indies in a chat group. Maybe it is sticking with them through the gritty times. It is a hard balance, but Indies need each other in the long haul.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Be wise. </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Seasons change, friends leave, support systems dwindle. It may be sad, though it is just life. I’m not here to advise on how to make more friends. I am here to remind you that people are out there. If you’ve lost support, if you’ve watched your audience lose interest, keep going. Don’t panic or say “I won’t make it!” because every author struggles. Struggling doesn’t make you an author, but pushing through them makes you a stronger human.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Find joy.</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> Some days, we won’t meet our writing goals. Some days, we will have an author friend drop out last minute on something important. Some days, we’ll have to help family instead of edit. Whatever the *mishap*, find joy. Don’t let things drag you down for long. Authors are still human. We still want support, love, and peace. We make sacrifices for writing, editing, and cover design. If we don’t choose joy, we will probably lose our minds. So remember, God has a reason for everything in our life and writing journey. </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">What we see as a setback? He can use to build us up.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="font-weight: normal; line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;"><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">All of this to now say… what for? </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Divided Nation taught me many things, but the lessons it taught me about friendship aren’t ones I’ll forget easily. I am so thankful for a supportive and growing Indie community.</span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"> </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I want to encourage every writer that they have their own journey. We’re all human. We all struggle. But God made us to love each other and being lonely authors doesn’t quite shake that, ha! </span><span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 11pt; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">If you want to go far, stay true to your story and be a genuine person. God will help you every step of the way.</span></span></div>

Today I'm helping to celebrate the release of <em>Midnight's Curse, </em>book two in the <em>Beyond the Tales </em>series by my good friend, Tricia Mingerink! <em>Beyond the Tales </em>is a series of fairy tale retellings with hints of allegorical elements set in a world based on the Appalachian Mountains.<br />
<br />
Don't miss the giveaway at the end of this blog post nor the invite to the Facebook party for more giveaways!

<em>The glass slippers might be her dreams come true...or her worst nightmare. </em><br />
<br />
High King Alexander rules the Seven Kingdoms of Tallahatchia—a divided nation on the brink of yet another war. When an invitation arrives from the king of Pohatomie, Alex knows it must be a trap, but could it also be his opportunity to unite the kingdoms?<br />
<br />
Daemyn Rand has lived a hundred years, served an arrogant prince, fallen in love with a princess, and lost himself somewhere along the way. He has already died for his loyalty. Will standing at the high king’s side cost him his last chance to truly live?<br />
<br />
Elara Ashen is a lowly, miserable servant. All she wants is to spend even one night in a fancy dress dancing with the high king. When she is offered a pair of glass slippers, it seems that all her dreams have come true.<br />
<br />
But dreams have a price, and gifts can be curses in disguise. What will it cost to stop this curse from tearing Tallahatchia apart yet again?<br />
<br />
Fairy tales meet the Appalachian Mountains in this adventurous fantasy retelling of the classic Cinderella story.

Author Interview</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<b>What was the first story you ever
wrote? </b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">Technically, my first story was a
picture book I drew with my crayons when I was 2 about a family of talking
horses. It was filled with cutesy stories about the baby horse getting a
magical goose and going on vacation with her parents…and getting mauled by both
a lion and a tiger at different points with liberal use of my red crayon to
make realistic dripping blood. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">Did I mention I grew up on a farm?
Apparently even at 2 I knew about dripping blood. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">After that, I moved on to short
story fairy tale retellings and from there gradually lengthening fantasy
stories. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<b>What do you typically turn to for
the most inspiration?</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">Hikes in the woods are my favorite,
but when that’s not possible, then reading some of my favorite books usually
reminds me why I love stories so much. Watching some of my favorite princess
movies also works. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<b>If you could spend a day with any
historical figure, who would it be?</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">I would love to spend a day with
Betty Zane. She lived on the frontier of Ohio back in the 1700s, and she was
pretty cool. Zane Grey wrote about her since she was an ancestor of his, and
that was one of the first Zane Grey books I read. Betty Zane dashed across an
open space during an attack to fetch more gun powder for the fort. No one shot
at her at first because everyone was too stunned, but even though she was shot
at during her return trip running across the open field toting a sack of
gunpowder, she made it to the fort without injury and the fort and those inside
were saved. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<b>What are three random facts about you
that most people probably wouldn’t know?</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">1. I’m not a great cook. I’ve been
getting better with practice, but I apparently don’t have the most discerning
taste buds, so the whole “season to taste thing” is beyond me. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">2. Thanks to those weird taste buds,
I don’t like coffee or tea. Both of them taste super bitter to me. I don’t like
Pepsi or Coke either. Um, yeah. I’m picky. It’s pretty much Mountain Dew level
sweetness or water. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">3. I love Barbie movies. The
original 10 or so, at least. They are so adorable and girlie and even tomboy me
adores them. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<b>And because I’m sure all of us
fangirls have “book/fictional boyfriends,” who is one fictional character you
would particularly love to date? ;)</b><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">I fangirl as much as the next girl,
but I’m not one to imagine myself “dating” the characters or picking a
fictional boyfriend. Most of them are already taken anyway, lol. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">I’m just going to cheat and list one
of your characters and two of mine. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: 0in;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">Jace or Leith would be fun, lol. Though,
my personality would probably fit better with Daemyn. He’s a quieter soul than
Leith, and I’m a lot more like Rosanna than I am Renna. </span><o:p></o:p></div>

(For some reason, my brain is adding "preciousssss" to the end of that question. xD )<br />

To make this happen, I can either do a royalty split with him where I don't have to pay him to record the book and we spilt royalties as the audiobooks sell. However, that is risky for him as a narrator after all the work he will put into the project. I would love to pay him outright for that work. Of course, being the typical starving artist/writer that I am, that doesn't exactly fit into my budget.

That is why I am coming to you! If you are interested in helping me make this happen, I've set up an Indiegogo campaign to collect funding for the production of Resistance's audiobook. This is the first time I've ever tried crowdfunding (ahhhh!), but if I get enough funding, I'll be able to cover the production cost of Resistance and get my narrator the payment he deserves for his work. Check out the campaign <a href="https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/resistance-audiobook#/" target="_blank">here </a>or by clicking the image below. I'm not just asking for your money. Each backer gets some special perks as well! :D
And even if you can't help financially, you CAN help by sharing! Visit the campaign page where you'll find a bunch of share links.<br />

<br />
I haven’t blogged in a while, but it seemed wrong not to write this post, being the Marvel fangirl that I am. This week marked the end of an era. What started with Iron Man in 2008 ended with Avengers: Endgame, at least for our original Avengers. I got to see the movie yesterday morning with my brothers, sister-in-law, and friends from church. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a review. More just my thoughts 24 hours later. So, beware, SPOILERS ABOUND. If you haven’t seen it yet, this is where you stop reading. Or, if you like spoilers, then, by all means, carry on…<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
I mean it. This is your final warning. Spoilers ahead.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
.<br />
<br />
Okay, if I were to sum Endgame up into two words, they would be spectacular and bittersweet. I thought the moving was amazing. Amazing to see how far all of our beloved heroes had come and to see them all assembled one more time. Now, this really won’t be a very coherent post. More like fangirl rambling and a random explosion of thoughts and emotions. Oh yeah, and be prepared for gifs.<br />
<br />

<br />
First, Tony. Oh, Tony. I didn’t cry in the theater. I did get teary, but I didn’t cry. I think there were too many different emotions to cry. However, as the day passed, I could feel that cry coming on. Sure enough, last evening, I was sitting in my living room and the big fat tears started flowing. I cried for Tony. It may seem pathetic to the casual passersby for someone to cry over a fictional character. They are, after all, not real people and simply figments of a writer’s imagination. But, if you’re anything like me, you KNOW they are so much more than that. Characters inspire us. They encourage us. They help us to be braver, stronger, better people. There is power in fiction. That is why I love writing. So, yes, they may not be REAL people, but the emotions and attachments we feel to them ARE REAL.<br />
<br />
Tony’s death was heartbreaking. Of course, I understand it. The Infinity Saga started with him and ended with him. It makes perfect sense. That doesn’t mean I have to like it. Other than Hawkeye (my favorite Avenger), I think Tony was the one I did NOT want to die. I really thought it would be Cap, and I was okay with that. Now, to clarify, when Civil War came out, I was firmly on Team Cap. I still am. But, on a personal level, I love Tony more than Steve. <strong>*hears Cap fangirls shrieking</strong>* And I just felt like Tony had more to live for. Did everyone else’s heart just melt at the scenes with him and Morgan?! It was gloriously adorable. I don’t want that poor, sweet little girl growing up without her daddy. It just hurts my poor fangirl heart.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VKinWVidhYE/XMRupzs1BmI/AAAAAAAAT8o/QSoUzj9UevsIzY6tDdAGBTvoi2Jc6JNvQCLcBGAs/s1600/isntfair.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="270" data-original-width="500" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VKinWVidhYE/XMRupzs1BmI/AAAAAAAAT8o/QSoUzj9UevsIzY6tDdAGBTvoi2Jc6JNvQCLcBGAs/s1600/isntfair.gif" /></a></div>
<br />
So yeah, I personally would have preferred Cap to make the ultimate sacrifice. But I get it. <br />
<br />
Speaking of Cap, one of the hands-down coolest moments of the entire film was when he picked up Thor’s hammer. I just about jumped out of my seat and cheered. IT WAS GLORIOUS. So, SO cool. Watching him wield it was all kinds of awesome.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Obviously, being the Hawkeye fangirl that I am, I was very excited to see him in this movie. But oh my word, watching that opening scene of him losing his family dashed my fangirl heart to pieces. Basically, the beginning of the movie broke my heart and the ending broke my heart. And did anyone else about have a heart attack when he and Natasha were fighting over who was going over that edge? Like, I didn’t think he was going to be the one to die, but I didn’t know. It was scary. And not that I wanted Nat to die. I just absolutely did NOT want it to be Clint. He needed to be back with his family. Daddy Hawkeye is my favorite.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NLGtg3mYfLM/XMRvFG7svSI/AAAAAAAAT84/iuKnr2vaMecxMvXip0wpo9aUp_FyZOVYQCLcBGAs/s1600/hawkeye-family.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="190" data-original-width="400" height="190" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NLGtg3mYfLM/XMRvFG7svSI/AAAAAAAAT84/iuKnr2vaMecxMvXip0wpo9aUp_FyZOVYQCLcBGAs/s400/hawkeye-family.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It was shocking though, to have Nat die. That was a death I never really expected or thought about happening. I’ve never been a huge Black Widow fan, but I did enjoy seeing her character growth throughout the movies. <br />
<br />
I think my only real annoyance with the movie was Thor. I kind of feel like they’ve ruined the character they started out with. I don’t think it was smart to change things up with his character in the final couple movies of the saga. His character in Endgame just did not seem to fit with the Thor we got to know between the first Thor movie and Age of Ultron. I get how much he lost and the guilt he felt after Infinity War, but I just can’t see the original Thor wallowing like that. I believe that Thor would have stepped up and been there for what was left of his people even if he was personally struggling. I feel sad not to have seen that Thor carried through to the end of this amazing journey. But yeah, that’s really my only complaint.<br />
<br />
So now we’re looking at a new and different Marvel universe. I’m REALLY looking forward to the new movies and <a href="https://www.inverse.com/article/55275-avengers-endgame-spoilers-ending-explained-disney-plus-hawkeye-loki-wandavision-falcon-winter-soldier" target="_blank">series</a>, especially the Hawkeye series!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HcKrBPMWT18/XMRvSZq22KI/AAAAAAAAT88/ccPP6tDAMMIwSWZqw_GJfwDXrM7ONlKYACLcBGAs/s1600/giphy.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="281" data-original-width="500" height="223" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HcKrBPMWT18/XMRvSZq22KI/AAAAAAAAT88/ccPP6tDAMMIwSWZqw_GJfwDXrM7ONlKYACLcBGAs/s400/giphy.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I could probably go on an on, but I’ll end here. It was an amazing journey to this point. I’ll be mourning Tony for a while, but the adventure of the last 11 years was worth it.<br />

<b><u>About the Book</u></b><br />
<br />
The daughter of a Mohawk mother and French father in 1759 Montreal, Catherine Duval finds it is easier to remain neutral in a world that is tearing itself apart. Content to trade with both the French and the British, Catherine is pulled into the fray against her wishes when her British ex-<br />
fiance, Samuel Crane, is taken prisoner by her father. Samuel asks her to help him escape, claiming he has information that could help end the war.<br />
<br />
Peace appeals to Catherine, but helping the man who broke her heart does not. She delays . . . until attempts on Samuel's life convince her he's in mortal danger. Against her better judgment she helps him flee by river, using knowledge of the landscape to creep ever closer to freedom. Their time together rekindles feelings she thought long buried, and danger seems to hound their every mile. She's risked becoming a traitor by choosing a side, but will the decision cost her even more than she anticipated?<br />

<br />
The 18th century is one of my favorite time periods so this book caught my interest as soon as I read the description. I can’t say the beginning grabbed me as much as I would have liked. The abundance of backstory seemed to have quite a few areas of telling instead of showing that didn’t feel smooth to me, but overall it was a very interesting book. I reenact this time period, so I loved all the history. It wasn't the romance novel as I was expecting, but I am a hopeless romantic so that’s just my preference. If you like fiction that really immerses you in history, then I definitely recommend <a href="https://amzn.to/2BPt8nx" target="_blank">Between Two Shores</a>.<br />

Piper Redding is a loner, but lonely. Everyone she loves has abandoned her and opening her heart to others is just asking for more pain. She can’t help but blame herself for her brother’s tragic death six years ago, and in her guilt, she shuts herself off from the world. No one could love her—not even the God who promised to be there for her but wasn’t.<br />
<br />
For paramedic Ezra Bryant, failure is not an option. He’s had enough of it, and only by God’s grace is he able to put it behind him. But when a traumatic event brings Piper’s greatest fear and Ezra’s failures to light, can they use that event to allow God to mend their broken pieces? Can love triumph over fear, and grace over guilt?<br />

Sarah Grace Grzy is a voracious reader, and if it weren’t for this crazy thing called 'Life,' she’d be tempted to spend all her days in front of a wood stove, book in one hand, coffee mug in the other.<br />
<br />
A lover of learning, she finds enjoyment in many things and has more hobbies than she knows what to do with. Sarah Grace is a freelance web and graphic designer, and when not working, spending time with her ever-growing family, or reading, she can be found painting, playing the piano, or fangirling with her sisters and friends. She inhabits the State of Great Lakes, and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else—unless it meant she could have a baby penguin, in which case, she’d gladly move to the South Pole.<br />

Tricia and I sure did! Now I wish we had books releasing together all the time! Just . . . not around the holidays again. I think both Tricia and I just want to crawl into bed for a solid month of doing nothing. Right, Tricia? Anyway, if you missed any part of the tour, you can find the links below. My favorite part was the character chats! While it was a lot of work, it was amazingly fun seeing how my characters and Tricia’s interacted with each other. I’m still laughing over Kaden and Martyn’s interaction at the end of the <a href="https://triciamingerink.com/2018/12/21/ilyon-acktar-character-chat-4/" target="_blank">final chat</a> yesterday. And I think Kaden, Talas, and Brandi are Ilyon and Acktar’s new three musketeers. Can you imagine the misadventures they would have if left alone together for an extended period of time?</p><p>Let me just say, if you have not read Tricia’s books yet, DO IT. <strong>*whistles innocently as she drags readers to </strong><a href="https://amzn.to/2BwAjQj" target="_blank"><strong>Amazon</strong></a><strong> and pushes them toward the Buy Now button*</strong> Basically, Tricia’s books give me a taste of my own medicine. They’re exciting, heart-wrenching, and just plain awesome. And there’s Leith. If you love Jace, you’ll love Leith. So go do it. You know you want to. <strong>*smiles angelically*</strong></p><p><strong><u>Character Chats</u></strong></p><ul><li><a href="https://www.ilyonchronicles.com/single-post/2018/12/14/Ilyon-Acktar-Character-Chat-1" target="_blank">Chat #1</a></li><li><a href="https://triciamingerink.com/2018/12/17/ilyon-acktar-character-chat-2/" target="_blank">Chat #2</a></li><li><a href="https://www.ilyonchronicles.com/single-post/2018/12/19/Ilyon-Acktar-Character-Chat-3" target="_blank">Chat #3</a></li><li><a href="https://triciamingerink.com/2018/12/21/ilyon-acktar-character-chat-4/" target="_blank">Chat #4</a></li></ul><p><strong><u>Reviews</u></strong></p><ul><li><a href="http://novelsdragonsandwardrobedoors.blogspot.com/2018/12/the-ilyon-acktar-blog-tour-decree-review.html" target="_blank">Novels, Dragons, and Wardrobe Doors</a></li><li><a href="http://jessicalooksagain.blogspot.com/2018/12/ilyon-and-acktar-blog-tour-interview.html" target="_blank">Jessica Looks Again</a></li><li><a href="http://themusicofastory.blogspot.com/2018/12/todays-day.html" target="_blank">The Music of a Story</a></li><li><a href="http://chosenbythepotter.blogspot.com/2018/12/ilyon-acktar-blog-tour-spotlights-review.html" target="_blank">Chosen by the Potter</a></li><li><a href="https://thrivinghope.wordpress.com/2018/12/15/book-review-bitter-winter/" target="_blank">Thriving Hope</a></li><li><a href="https://thefloridsword.blogspot.com/2018/12/decree-blog-tour.html" target="_blank">The Writer’s Song</a></li><li><a href="https://perfectlyquirkyineveryway.wordpress.com/2018/12/15/ilyon-and-ackatar-blog-tour-interviews-and-reviews/" target="_blank">Perfectly Quirky In Every Way</a></li><li><a href="http://bethanyr4him.blogspot.com/2018/12/blog-tour-bitter-winter-lacy-reviews.html" target="_blank">A Great God and Good Cocoa</a> (Bitter Winter & Lacy)</li><li><a href="http://bethanyr4him.blogspot.com/2018/12/blog-tour-decree-review.html" target="_blank">A Great God and Good Cocoa</a> (Decree)</li><li><a href="https://morganhuneke.blogspot.com/2018/12/bitter-winter-lacy-and-decree-reviews.html" target="_blank">Morgan Huneke</a></li><li><a href="http://backingbooks.blogspot.com/2018/12/ilyon-acktar-tour-and-giveaway.html" target="_blank">Backing Books</a></li><li><a href="http://www.honeyrockhills.com/2018/12/bitter-winter-new-fantasy-novel-from.html" target="_blank">Honey Rock Hills</a></li><li><a href="http://www.tjsmusing.com/2018/12/blades-of-acktar-and-ilyon-chronicles.html" target="_blank">TJ’s Musing</a></li><li><a href="https://writtenrest.wordpress.com/2018/12/18/bitter-winter-book-review/" target="_blank">Resting Life</a> (Bitter Winter)</li><li><a href="https://writtenrest.wordpress.com/2018/12/18/lacy-review/" target="_blank">Resting Life</a> (Lacy)</li><li><a href="https://writtenrest.wordpress.com/2018/12/18/decree-review/" target="_blank">Resting Life</a> (Decree)</li><li><a href="http://sgwilloughby.com/2018/12/18/3-really-awesome-christian-fantasy-books-ilyon-acktar-blog-tour/" target="_blank">G. What do you hope will happen in <em>Daican’s Heir</em>? What are you most excited for? I don’t have a release date for the book since I’m still writing it (you can see my progress meter in my sidebar), but I did set up my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/jayelknight/ilyon-chronicles-books/daicans-heir-book-6/" target="_blank">Pinterest board</a> for it with some teaser images. ;)</p><p align="center"><font size="5"><strong>Something new…</strong></font></p><p align="left">So, two years ago, I did something completely unexpected. I participated in NaNoWriMo for the very first time writing a <em>contemporary romance novel, </em>which is titled <em>No Chance Meeting</em>. Yeah, I always said I couldn’t write contemporary romance to save my life, but what do you know? It actually happened. And it actually went very well. So well that it spawned a series. Ahhh! I <a href="http://jayelknight.blogspot.com/2016/11/i-must-be-crazy-or-how-i-decided-to-do.html" target="_blank">first posted</a> about <em>No Chance Meeting</em> when I was writing it. With the book, I won my very first NaNoWriMo and went on to finish the story fairly quickly afterward.</p><p align="left">Of course, once it was finished, I started thinking about publication. NCM is quite a departure from my usual genre, so I decided I am going to publish it under a slightly different pen name. A lot of you probably know this already from Facebook updates, but for those who don’t, said pen name is Jaye Elliot.</p><p align="left">I’m hoping to publish No Chance Meeting sometime this spring. So today, I am officially launching my new website AND revealing the cover for NCM! Tada!</p><p align="left"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-cNJZB5vzuak/XB0LjE-bGKI/AAAAAAAATx0/FZzBuRe8PE4wiMaHItPgBS7iogQ1y3oWQCHMYCw/s1600-h/Meeting%255B6%255D"><img width="417" height="625" title="Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00020]" style="border: 0px currentcolor; border-image: none; margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; float: none; display: block; background-image: none;" alt="Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00020]" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QaZ1M_25Dgc/XB0LkI_ah1I/AAAAAAAATx4/-fDdpDN1WOs-Mfu5tPWeyRXKUIzPYWf7QCHMYCw/Meeting_thumb%255B3%255D?imgmax=800" border="0"></a></p><p align="left">NCM is the first in what I plan to be a three book series, <em>No Chance Romance</em>. Though they are connected, each one has different protagonists and can be read as standalones. Each of my female protagonists has a different creative professional—an artist, a musician, and a writer (yay!)—while each of the male protagonists is former military. I’m super excited about it and can’t wait to share. Below you can find all the links to my new website and social media accounts if you would like to follow this new writing adventure of mine.</p><p align="left">So, what do you think of this interesting new direction? Don’t panic! I won’t quit writing Spec Fic any time soon! No worries there. I have a a huge secret Pinterest board of nearly a dozen ideas for future adventure stories that I’m sure will only grow with time.</p><p align="center"><font size="4"><a href="www.jayeelliot.com" target="_blank">Website</a></font></p><p align="center"><font size="4"><a href="www.facebook.com/jayeelliot" target="_blank">Facebook</a></font></p><p align="center"><font size="4"><a href="www.goodreads.com/jayeelliot" target="_blank">Goodreads</a></font></p><p align="center"><font size="4"><a href="https://www.pinterest.com/jayelknight/no-chance-meeting/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></font></p><p align="left"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3I9rhvqmo-8/XB0LgZDf4NI/AAAAAAAATxo/-F0eYuZcyOkZcdOxFQJOCbX2ooS4jsdBQCHMYCw/s1600-h/DHTempCover%255B8%255D"><br></a></p>Jaye L.
